New Delhi, Jan 20 (NationPress) Former India captain Virat Kohli has officially confirmed his participation in Delhi's forthcoming Ranji Trophy match, set to take place against Railways from January 30 to February 2 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Kohli has expressed a strong desire to play in this match, which he conveyed to the DDCA on Monday evening, as per sources informed by IANS.

Kohli's decision has garnered significant attention following the Indian team's disappointing performance in the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy series in Australia. Several cricket experts, including Sunil Gavaskar and Ravi Shastri, have encouraged members of the Indian red-ball team to engage in domestic matches after the 1-3 loss to Australia in the five-match series.

There is mounting pressure on the Indian red-ball team members to participate in domestic matches after their dismal batting display in Australia, where the team struggled to score more than 150 runs in the majority of their innings. In the five Tests, Kohli managed to score only 190 runs and was dismissed eight times while attempting to chase deliveries outside the off-stump.

Team captain Rohit Sharma, young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Rishabh Pant, and Ravindra Jadeja have also confirmed their availability for the next round of Ranji Trophy matches starting on January 23, before some of them head to the Champions Trophy in Dubai.

Previously, Kohli had informed the BCCI's medical team about an injury that would prevent him from participating in the upcoming round of Ranji Trophy matches starting January 23. He reported suffering from neck pain, for which he received an injection on January 8, following the conclusion of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Sydney. Despite receiving treatment, he continues to experience discomfort, which ruled him out of Delhi's match against Saurashtra in Rajkot.

Kohli's last appearance in a Ranji Trophy match was back in 2012 against Uttar Pradesh in Ghaziabad.
