Durban, Jan 22 (NationPress) MI Cape Town moved a step closer to their first-ever SA20 Playoffs berth after their match against Durban’s Super Giants at Kingsmead was called off due to rain.

The visitors secured two points, putting them on par with Paarl Royals at the top of the standings, who maintain the lead with more victories.

On the other hand, Durban’s Super Giants remain at the bottom of the table, their two points lifting them to eight but still in a challenging position. The previous season's runners-up now face a near must-win situation if they are to reach the playoffs.

The match commenced with DSG captain Keshav Maharaj winning the toss and opting to field first.

MI Cape Town openers Ryan Rickelton and Rassie van der Dussen quickly raced to 34 runs in just four overs before Rickelton (18 off nine balls) was bowled by a length delivery from Junior Dala.

Van der Dussen (35 not out) kept the innings rolling despite the loss of Reeza Hendricks (8) and Colin Ingram (1), both caught at the boundary trying to hit the spin of Keshav Maharaj and Noor Ahmad, respectively.

The MICT captain Rashid Khan was promoted to No 5, hitting a boundary over the covers before rain halted the game for the evening.

DSG will hope for better weather when they face the in-form Royals on Thursday night in their final home group match at Kingsmead.

Meanwhile, MICT is looking forward to a short break, as they will play again on Saturday against Super Giants at Newlands.
