Jamshedpur, Feb 8 (NationPress) Shubham Narain from Delhi overcame previous disappointments by securing a win on the third playoff hole against Anant Singh Ahlawat, an amateur from Panchkula, during the final stage of the PGTI Qualifying School 2025 held at Golmuri Golf Course on Saturday.

The 27-year-old Shubham emerged as the Q School champion on Saturday morning with a par on the 13th hole, which served as the third playoff hole. Unfortunately, Anant missed his par attempt on this third extra hole.

Both players, Shubham Narain (71-64-67-66) and Anant Singh Ahlawat (67-64-67-70), sons of Army officers, entered a playoff on Friday after finishing the regulation 72 holes tied at an impressive 16-under 268. They both made pars on the first two playoff holes. Due to diminishing light on Friday evening, the match resumed on Saturday at 7 am.

On Saturday, Shubham, who turned professional in 2017 as a teenager, made a remarkable two-on and two-putt for par on the par-4 13th hole, sealing his victory. He tapped in for the winning par putt from just one and a half feet away, while Anant, a former All India Amateur champion, missed an eight-foot par putt, ending his challenge.

Shubham received a winner's cheque of INR 75,000 and expressed, “Firstly, securing my full card and now winning a tournament after eight years, especially my first as a professional is exceptionally significant. I also achieved my lowest four-day total at an event. Though it's just the Q School, a win is a win, and it greatly boosts my self-belief for the future.”

He added, “My putting has been instrumental in maintaining my momentum throughout the week. I was pleased with how I managed my game and mindset, even with the extra pressure of playing an additional day. It was unusual because the course was nearly empty when I arrived in the morning, which helped me relax.”

“The experiences from previous seasons have changed my approach to the game. I used to be too hard on myself, but now I’m more patient, keep my expectations realistic, and allow myself room for mistakes. I hope to maintain this form throughout the season.”

The cut in the final round was set at three-under 281, allowing the top 33 players to secure their full cards for the 2025 TATA Steel PGTI season.
