Rourkela, Jan 19 (NationPress) The Soorma Hockey Club Men’s team is gearing up for a challenging schedule, facing off against the Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers this coming Monday, followed by an encounter with the Delhi SG Pipers on January 22. These two pivotal matches will be crucial as Soorma seeks to kick off phase 2 of the league positively.
In this second phase, Soorma Hockey Club finds itself in Pool A, alongside the Delhi SG Pipers, Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers, and Vedanta Kalinga Lancers.
Having participated in six matches to date, Soorma Hockey Club has achieved one victory, two penalty shootout bonus points, and one draw, placing them sixth on the leaderboard with a total of eight points. In contrast, the Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers currently sit in fourth position, coming off a recent 5-3 win against the UP Rudras.
“Tomorrow’s match is expected to be a tough contest, possibly a long game for the players. However, we see it as a launching pad for the next phase; we must secure a positive result, which means being fully prepared for a significant match,” remarked head coach Jeroen Baart.
“The players have come to understand that improvement is necessary. We recognize that some factors are within our control while others, such as injuries, are not. Our focus needs to remain on what we can influence. We are confident in our capabilities and are set to give our utmost on the field. The atmosphere is very optimistic, and we all believe we will fight hard for those points,” he added.
Following the match against Shrachi Rarh Bengal Tigers, Soorma will face off against the Delhi SG Pipers on January 22. The Pipers have struggled to find victory in the league so far and will be eager to turn their luck around as they enter the next phase. In their most recent meeting, Soorma secured a 2-2 (3-1 SO) penalty shootout win, earning a bonus point from a closely fought match.
“I have faith in our progress thus far. We have been displaying commendable hockey, but now we need to convert our play into results, specifically improving our performance in the offensive circle. We have been focusing on this aspect over the past week and must elevate our game. I truly believe in the enhancements we've made, but now it’s crucial for us to be efficient in the circle,” he elaborated.
