“The greatest joy of a guru is to witness the success and growth of their students, and it is this bond that the Bharat Maestro Awards seeks to celebrate. The purpose behind this initiative is to create something that transcends mere awards; it’s about bridging the past, present, and future of music, and bringing us together through the universal language of sound,” stated the award-winning composer AR Rahman.

The awards are designed to pay homage to late musical legends while recognizing the contributions of contemporary musical icons. This venture also highlights the significance of the teacher-student relationship.

Furthermore, the awards aim to inspire younger audiences and enhance the accessibility of classical music through creative visual presentations and performances driven by talent.

The Bharat Maestro Awards will celebrate talent across multiple categories, including Stellar Young Musicians, Lifetime Achievement Award for the Guru, and the State Medallion for Music Contribution.

The recipients of the awards will be honored by their own mentors, reflecting the teacher-student tradition. Additionally, awardees will receive a cash prize and opportunities to perform on a global stage, alongside participating in performances with AR Rahman.

The launch of the Bharat Maestro Awards coincides with a significant milestone for the KM Music Conservatory, founded by Rahman, as it celebrates its 16th year of cultivating musical talent.

This conservatory has gained recognition as a premier institution offering programs in both Western and Indian Classical music traditions, as well as music technology.
