Itanagar, March 14 (NationPress) - On Friday, police in Arunachal Pradesh successfully rescued three teenage girls from Assam at Naharlagun railway station, located near Itanagar, according to officials.

A police spokesperson revealed that the girls, aged between 14 and 15 years, boarded a train in Duliajan aiming to reach Tinsukia but inadvertently arrived at Naharlagun railway station on Wednesday.

The minors, aged 14 to 15 years, began their journey on March 12 from Duliajan with plans to go to Tinsukia, a nearby area in the same region. However, they mistakenly ended up at Naharlagun railway station that same evening.

Upon receiving alerts from bystanders at the railway station, the police quickly intervened, providing medical assistance and transporting the girls to Oju Shelter Home in Naharlagun.

The authorities reached out to the Duliajan police in Assam, who swiftly located the parents of the minors.

The three girls were reunited with their parents at the Papu Hills police station on Friday.

The parents expressed their gratitude to the Arunachal Pradesh police for their prompt and effective response, as well as their coordination with Duliajan Police in locating the parents.

The efficient and professional actions taken by the Papu Hills Police in Itanagar ensured the safety and well-being of the teenage girls, effectively averting any potential risks of exploitation or human trafficking.

This operation highlighted the commitment of law enforcement agencies to protect vulnerable minors, as emphasized by a senior official from the Arunachal Pradesh police.

Last year, Arunachal Pradesh police dismantled an interstate trafficking operation in Chimpu, located in the Papum Pare district, successfully rescuing five minors and arresting 21 suspects involved in a prostitution ring linked to human traffickers from both Arunachal Pradesh and Assam.

The Chairperson of the Arunachal Pradesh Women Commission, Kenjum Pakam, previously called on the state government to take stringent measures against perpetrators involved in child trafficking and sexual exploitation.
