New Delhi, Dec 22 (NationPress) Union Minister of Power and Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar conducted a review of the power sector in Kerala on Sunday during an event held in the state capital, Thiruvananthapuram.
The event took place at a hotel located in Thiruvananthapuram.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Power, attendees included Suresh Gopi, Minister of State for MoPNG & Tourism, along with K. Krishnankutty, the Kerala Minister for Electricity.
Senior officials from both the state and Central governments, as well as representatives from the Power Finance Corporation (PFC), also participated in the meeting.
“During this session, various topics concerning the overall power sector situation in Kerala were discussed. This included issues related to demand and supply of electricity, opportunities for capacity enhancement in the Renewable, Hydro & Nuclear sectors, and matters pertaining to power distribution. Furthermore, the current progress of initiatives under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) and potential action plans were reviewed,” stated the Power Ministry.
The state raised concerns regarding the power sector and proposed solutions to address future electricity demand.
K. Krishnankutty expressed gratitude to Union Minister Khattar for his visit to Thiruvananthapuram to address power sector issues, while also mentioning the state’s concerns.
He acknowledged the Central government’s allocation of coal linkage for 500MW, support through Viability Gap Funding for a Battery Energy Storage System amounting to Rs 135 crore, and allocation of power from NTPC Barh up to March 2025.
The Minister advocated for an increase in power allocation from NTPC Barh (Central Generating Plants) and requested an extension for the allocation period up to June 2025.
He highlighted that the state is actively working on the large-scale integration of renewable energy and emphasized Kerala's commitment to improving its power sector.
In his remarks, Manohar Lal Khattar indicated that his visit would facilitate the resolution of existing issues and aid in identifying new initiatives to enhance services for the citizens of the state.
The Union Minister assured ongoing support and collaboration from the Central government for the comprehensive development of Kerala and conveyed well wishes for the people of the state, as stated by the Power Ministry.
