Chennai, Jan 21 (NationPress) Actress Malavika Mohanan, known for her powerful performance as Aarathy in director Pa Ranjith’s ‘Thangalaan’, appears to have been truly captivated by the Cenotes of Mexico.
The actress shared images of herself enjoying a swim in a Cenote, stating, “Just picture uncovering a hidden aquatic paradise nestled beneath the earth’s surface - behold, the Cenotes of Mexico!”
“Some resemble enormous natural bathtubs, open to the sky and enveloped by vibrant jungle, while others are concealed like secret caverns, accessible only through a slender entrance,” she elaborated.
Reflecting on her fascination, she mentioned that she had learned about Cenotes during a daydreaming session nearly ten years ago, saying, “They felt so distant to me, I could only wish to witness them one day.”
Malavika confessed that before her visit, she was unaware of the historical and cultural significance of these sites, which made them even more intriguing, and she shared some fascinating details.
She remarked, “For the Maya, cenotes were of profound spiritual and cultural importance. They were viewed as sacred portals to the underworld, referred to as ‘Xibalba’, the domain of the deceased. The Maya believed that cenotes were abodes of the gods, and the waters within were seen as a direct connection to the divine. Consequently, cenotes were frequently utilized for religious ceremonies, including offerings and human sacrifices, to appease the deities or seek their counsel.”
