Liverpool, Jan 10 (NationPress) Recently, there has been considerable criticism directed at Liverpool's right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold due to his performance in the team’s 2-2 draw against Manchester United. Head coach Arne Slot has come to the defense of his player, emphasizing that Trent has had many outstanding games this season.
"I recognize that there is a consistent trend in the goals we concede, yet I do not perceive that this trend involves Trent at all. He has had one challenging match for us (during the recent 2-2 draw with Manchester United at Anfield) and perhaps a handful of performances that were acceptable to good. Overall, he has delivered exceptional performances for us this season.
"While I acknowledge there is significant focus on him right now, I would also like to draw attention to how well he played when he came off the bench for the last half hour (against Tottenham on Wednesday) and the positive reaction from our fans, which brought me even more satisfaction during that match," Slot stated in a press conference.
The 26-year-old has been rumored to be considering a move to European powerhouse Real Madrid in the upcoming summer transfer window, which has intensified scrutiny on his performances. He was left out of the lineup for the team’s 0-1 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-finals.
Head coach of Accrington Stanley FC, John Doolan, who previously coached at Liverpool’s academy and trained a young Trent during his early years, expressed his eagerness to reconnect with Trent during his press conference on Wednesday.
"I cared for Trent when he was six and seven years old, which he probably won’t recall, but his mother, Diane, might remember, as we spoke frequently.
"He was a center-forward back then, and even at a young age, you could see his remarkable talent, scoring with both feet and easily bypassing defenders. His potential was evident even back then. It would be lovely if he remembers, but I would also enjoy catching up with Diane as well," Doolan remarked.
